Senior Portrait Session in a Cloudy Day: How to capture the best images during a cloudy day.
Event: Rachel Senior Photo Session at Overland Park Arboretum
It was such a pleasure working with Rachel. We started the day at Overland Park Arboretum and ended our day at Blue Valley Library. We all know how unpredictable the weather is in Kansas City specially in the Spring time. We were fortunate to have great weather during our photoshoot. It was cloudy and the temperature was in the high 60's. It is very important to use a light source during a cloudy day in order to have photos that do not look "flat". Having a light source creates a more dynamic look to the photograph. Most importantly, having the extra light really brings out the eyes - we can all agree that what makes a photo great is what the eyes is communicating in the image.
What lighting we used in this photoshoot:
flash and 26" softbox
wireless trigger and transmitter
tri-pod
Tip:
Make sure you are setting your light source close enough to the model because although it is cloudy, it might still be too bright. The flash may not be able to overpower the daylight.
Special thanks to Tram: I didn't have an assistant this day and I was glad to have her mom volunteer to hold the softbox.
